Preface:
This is not a story about memory. Its not a story shaped by inheritance, by legend or what has been passed down without examination.
Its not a defense or an accusation; it is a presentation of record. Andrew Jackson left behind that record. It exists in his letters, his offical reports, his speeches, the laws he signed, the treaties negotiated during his lifetime.
Those materials have been preserved in collections : The Library of Congress’s Andrew Jacksons Papers; where his life is recorded in his own words and in the actions attributed to him.
This book begins with this standard: No claim will be made that is not supported by documented evidence. It will be supported by sources, that main source is Jackson himself. There is one very notable exemption: His wife Rachel Jackson. This poor woman’s misery will not be used against her. She just married an unfortunate monster, who married above his station. She is exempt will not be mentioned as a partaker in his crimes against humanity. As I stated at the beginning, this is not about memory. This is a matter of record.
This book is for the education of the modern generation. My kids, grandkids and great grandkids will carry this story with them, to know their own legacys.
